Carom Seeds: Ajwain: seeds that are present in almost every kitchen because of their beneficial values.

Even our mothers and grandmothers are using this superfood for a long-ago apart from the cooking zone. These seeds are used in ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of common cold, acidity, migraine, etc.

 

Some of the benefits of these seeds are:

  • highly beneficial in the digestive system.
  • rich source of fiber, anti-oxidant vitamins, etc.

 

Some DIY of Carom Seeds:

For health:

  • Inhaling the smell of carom seeds tied in a piece of cloth with some garlic cloves helps to relieve nasal congestion.
  • One or two drops of ajwain oil can cure various ear infections and earache.
  • Having 1 tsp of carom seeds with lukewarm water before bedtime helps in constipation.
  • Boil 1 tbsp of carom seeds in 1 glass of water for 5 minutes. This helps in curing various stomach pain.
  • Ajwain water cleanses the liver and kidney.
  • Use Ajwain water or Ajwain oil regularly to cure arthritis.
  • Gargle with ajwain water twice to thrice daily to prevent tooth pain.
  • Wrap some carom seeds in cloth. Smelling it can reduce migraine headaches.
  • Boil 1 liter of water with 1 tsp of fennel seeds and 1 tsp of carom seeds. This helps a new mother in milk production.

For Skin:

  • Mix 1-2 tsp of powdered ajwain with 1-2 tbsp of yogurt. Apply it for 15-20 minutes and then wash off. Doing this on a regular basis helps to reduce acne.
  • Also, mix the powdered carom seeds with lukewarm water. Apply the paste on pimples. This helps to prevent swelling.
 

Edible Uses of Carom Seeds:

  • Basically used in curries to enhance the flavor.
  • Carom seeds are used for making herbal tea.
  • Used in making cookies also.
  • Ajwain Parantha is my all-time favorite parantha dish.
  • Carom seeds double the taste of fritters when added with gram flour.
  • It is used in pickles along with other spices like turmeric, mustard seeds, etc.
