Namkeen Sattu: a high protein drink to make you active for the full day.

Sattu is a summer cooler which gives you instant energy and considered to be one of the best cooling agents during summers.

Earlier, very few people were known about his word ‘sattu’ but now most of the people are aware of this highly nutritive ingredient. All credit goes to the people of Bihar and Jharkhand, the farmers used this drink to beat the heat a few years back.

                                                                                What is SATTU?

It is a flour-like ingredient which is also known powerhouse of the body. You can easily find this ingredient in the market but if you wish to make this at home, simply roast gram (chana) in the wok, cool it down and grind it to make a fine powder. Your chana sattu is ready to use. Now, in the market, you can easily find different varieties of sattu which contains a combination of different grains.

It is full of nutrients because of which it is good for hair and skin, Also, it controls cholesterol, good for digestion, great for diabetic patients and many more.

I came to know about this version of Sattu 2 years back when my husband prepared it for me when I was in my first trimester. From that time, this cooler becomes a part of my breakfast once or twice a week. Sattu can be used in many other forms like sattu ka parantha, sattu ki puri, sattu sharbat, etc.


Before jumping to the recipe, I would like to give a few suggestions for this summer cooler. Firstly, it is totally your choice what you want to add or skip in it, the mandatory ingredients are lemon juice, black salt and obviously sattu. Secondly, do not sieve the drink.

Step by step instructions

  •  Take a bowl, add 3 tbsp of sattu in it.

     

  • Add black salt, roasted cumin powder, and black pepper powder to it.
  • Add lemon juice.
  • Mix all the things by adding water in batches and preparing a running mixture.
  • The batter must be lump-free and of running consistency.

  • Take a glass and add 3 tbsp of prepared mixture to it.
  • Add cold water and fill the glass. Stir it once.
  • Namkeen Sattu is ready to drink.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 tbsp Sattu
  • 1 tsp Black salt
  • ½ tsp Roasted cumin powder
  • ¼ tsp Black pepper powder
  • ½ cup Lemon juice
  • Coldwater as required
  • Dry mint leaves optional

Instructions
 

  • Take a bowl, add 3 tbsp of sattu in it.
  • Add black salt, roasted cumin powder and black pepper powder to it.
  • Add lemon juice.
  • Mix all the things by adding water in batches and prepare running mixture.
  • Take a glass and add 3 tbsp of prepared mixture to it.
  • Add cold water and fill the glass. Stir it once.
  • Garnish it with dry mint leaves.
  • Namkeen Sattu is ready to drink.

Notes

Do not sieve the mixture.
Stir it properly before drinking.
