Makhana Raita is basically a dish for fasting days but you can also consume it on regular days. Do you know why Foxnut is the first choice during fasting days? Let me know your answers in the comments.
Foxnuts are a very rich source of calcium and proteins. It is the favorite snack of my daughter and mine too. I usually had a packet of foxnuts at my home. When we think about any fast recipe few things strike our minds: Makhana is one of those such things.
I was unaware of the words “Makhana Raita”. I came to know about this when I was searching for the foxnut recipes. As I love raita so I decided to go with Foxnut Raita this Navratri.
I simply add vrat spices i.e, salt and black pepper, and mixed it with thick yogurt, garnished with coriander leaves, and it’s done. The aroma of roasted cumin powder will surely make you more hungry. You can add some peanuts and green chilies to have spicy flavor in it but as my daughter is big fond of Raitas do I am not making it too spicy.
The combination of dahi and makhana is very healthy and nutritious. The goodness of dahi when mixed with the benefits of makhana results in a dish that will not make you feel low for the full day. So, we can also name it “Dahi Makhane Ka Raita”.
To adjust the sourness of curd, I am mixing 2 tbsp grated coconut. You can skip this step if you are using fresh curd or you can add 1 tsp of sugar along with grated coconut if the curd is too sour.
Also, you can add or eliminate any ingredient as per your choice on the fasting days.
