Moong Dal Dhokla Recipe | 1 Tsp Oil Recipe

Moong Dal Dhokla

Moong Dal Dhokla is much easier to make in comparison with the regular one. A wholesome batter of soaked and finely ground moong dal is accompanied by very basic things like salt for taste and turmeric powder for good color. This can also be termed as A Healthy Vegan Snack.

Moong Dal Dhokla is a non-traditional, non-fermented, soft and spongy, perfect net-like structure, tempered with sugar-lemon water and garnished with fresh coconut and coriander leaves. I think this much explanation is enough to fill your mouth with water. It is a perfect dish for those who are following a weight loss diet and need some easy, quick, and low-calorie food.

Dhokla is a popular Gujarati dish that has many flavors in it, like sweet-sour and some spiciness as well. Basically It is made with gram flour, curd, and followed by some spices. But today we are not using gram flour and curd in it and this is the specialty of our recipe.

Nowadays, there are many variations of this amazing dish available like Khaman, Nylon, Suji Dhokla, Aloo Dhokla, etc.

Discussing the recipe in detail:

  • Soaking of lentil for a minimum of 4 hours is necessary. This time allows the lentil to properly soaked up the water.
  • While grinding you just need to make sure that there should be no water in the lentil. Also, I added green chili and ginger with the lentil but it is completely optional.
  • Consistency of batter is important which needs to be thick-flowing.
  • Whisking or beating the batter for about 3-4 minutes is mandatory as it allows the air to incorporated in the batter which helps the Dhokla to puff.
  • Do not overcook, otherwise the result will be hard.
  • You can replace this yellow lentil with green gram.

Moong Dal Dhokla goes well with green chutney, tamarind sauce or you can have it with evening tea. Serve this unique version in your kitty parties, birthday parties, or family together, I can guarantee no one will believe that it is not made with gram flour. Follow the instructions properly and you will have a perfect result!
